We are stewards of God’s money, not owners of our own.

This is the fundamental starting place on the journey to generosity. All we have has been entrusted to us by God. He owns it, not us. We are stewards of His money. Therefore, we must look to Him and His instructions for how to steward His resources. "Heavenly Father, how would you like me to manage the money you have entrusted to me?" Approaching God this way will inevitably influence our habits of giving and spending.

This journey from stewardship to generosity is a journey of trust.

Of course, giving 8% or 10% to the Lord's work, or 15% or 20%, will require a growing trust in God. There are bills to pay, investments to make, and lives to live! Ask yourself, "Can I trust God to do with 90% what I think I can do with 100%?" That's a good question, isn't it? Because it presses the issue of trust. Will I trust Jesus who said, "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you" (Matthew 6:33)?

We're stronger together; our collective generosity can do so much more good.

According to The Barna Group, on average Christians give far, far less than 10% of their income to the Lord's work, limiting the breadth and depth of God's work among them. Imagine the possibilities for good if EVERYONE at Redeemer was on a passionate pursuit of stewardship and generosity! The "good" can be defined in a number of ways: (1) adequately providing for our staff and their development, (2) sufficiently maintaining and improving our facilities and grounds, (3) generously funding our ministries that minister to our kids, students, and adults of all ages and stages of life, (4) happily supporting more gospel efforts both here and abroad, and (5) encouraging dreaming for ways Redeemer can "excel still more" in love, evangelism, and discipleship. Just think what we could do!

The tithe (10%) provides a wise goal for stewardship—and then a springboard for more generosity!

We acknowledge the Scriptures do not clearly command New Covenant believers to give a tithe (10%) of their income. But that God would call His Old Covenant people to tithe in order to glorify Him and support His work encourages us to believe God may like His Spirit-indwelt people to trust Him with at least the same. So, we encourage God's people to make giving 10% to the Lord's work a goal. Then, don't stop there! Look for opportunities to generously give more.

Scripture warns against the love of money, greed, and stinginess.

Just as Scripture provides great encouragement toward intentional, generous giving, it also warns against the love of money, greed, and stinginess. All of Jesus's followers should soberly consider the consequences of unbelief and disobedience in this most crucial area of Christian discipleship.

A life of stewardship and generosity promises great reward.

Our God is a happy, loving God, who loves to give good gifts to His children. He does not ask us to trust Him with the stewardship/generosity journey because He wants to take from us. No! He wants to give to us! What He may give us cannot exactly be spelled out, for He knows exactly what we need. But, consider some of the many rewards related to generosity found in Scripture: plenty, overflow, life indeed, the floodgates of heaven, a good measure, and blessing. Don't they invite us into a life of trust, stewardship, and generosity? This is no quid pro quo—a promise that God will reward us physically or financially in this life if we are generous. But surely we are laying up treasures in heaven that will surpass our wildest imaginations!

It supports Redeemer En Español, enabling for Spanish speakers to worship in their heart language, and provides valuable outreach to Spanish communities.

It supports Redeemer’s ministry to adults and families through bible studies, community groups, counseling, and family resources for a Christ centered home.
